Preparing for Power Outages in Ukraine: How Much Cash to Keep and Where to Get It.
How to Manage Finances During Power Cuts in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: With Ukraine experiencing frequent power outages, experts advise citizens to prepare by stockpiling cash and essential supplies. These blackouts, often caused by wartime attacks on infrastructure, can disrupt digital payment systems. Having a financial reserve for one to two weeks of autonomous living is crucial during an electricity shutdown.
Specialists estimate a family's daily expenses at around 1,000 Ukrainian hryvnias (UAH). To avoid hardship, it is recommended to keep a cash reserve of 10,000 to 15,000 UAH at home. This sum should cover costs for food, medicine, and other vital needs when the power is out.
Ways to Access Cash During a Blackout
If you need to obtain cash during an outage, several options may be available:
- Withdrawing money from the teller windows at bank branches that remain operational;
- Using ATMs and terminals at on-duty branches equipped with backup power sources;
- The 'Cash at Checkout' service, which allows you to get cash at participating stores and retail outlets.
Keeping an adequate amount of cash at home is a key step in preparing for the difficulties associated with blackouts and can help Ukrainians weather this period more easily. Proactive preparation, including securing physical currency, is increasingly vital as it ensures the ability to purchase necessary goods and services independently of electronic systems during challenging times.
