The fishing industry of Ukraine has suffered from occupation
The military aggression of the Russian Federation has caused significant harm to the fishing industry of Ukraine, including the Sea of Azov. The occupiers are engaged in illegal fishing of aquatic biological resources, plundering the fish wealth of the water body. This was reported by the State Agency for Water Resources and Fisheries of Ukraine.
It should be noted that the temporary occupation of the Sea of Azov basin by the Russian Federation has made it impossible to control the catch of aquatic biological resources in this water body by Ukraine. However, the Azov Fisheries Protection Patrol of the State Fisheries Agency, using information posted on the Internet about the volumes of fish caught by the occupiers, assessed the damage caused to Ukraine's fishing industry in the Sea of Azov, taking into account legal requirements, - the agency noted.
According to preliminary estimates, the damage caused to Ukraine's fishing industry due to illegal fishing of biological resources by the Russian Federation in the Sea of Azov amounts to over 4.1 billion UAH. It is known that Russian poachers inflicted 194.4 million UAH in damages in 2022, 367 million UAH in 2023, and for the first 9 months of 2024 - 3,584 million UAH.
The Azov Fisheries Protection Patrol of the State Fisheries Agency has sent information about the damage to the police for a criminal investigation. Currently, the patrol, together with law enforcement agencies, continues to monitor cases of illegal fishing by poachers in the Sea of Azov.
