Ukraine's EU Accession Talks Gain Momentum

According to UATV: Ukraine's negotiations to join the European Union are picking up pace, largely driven by recent political changes in Hungary. The door to opening new negotiation clusters swung open after Hungary's April elections, which brought Prime Minister Péter Magyar to power. EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos has predicted that all negotiation clusters could be opened as early as July. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also voiced optimism about the swift opening of these clusters.

EU Council Working Group Session

Today, the EU Council's working group on enlargement convened to discuss the approval of screening reports for Clusters 2 and 3 for both Ukraine and Moldova. The green light for these screening reports is a prerequisite for opening two economic clusters focused on the internal market and competitiveness. The opening of these economic clusters is currently scheduled for September.

Also on the agenda for today's meeting were matters related to finalizing the 21st package of sanctions against Russia. EU representative Guillaume Mercier commented:
