Earlier this week, a passing boat discovered her body 40 km from the island of Fidoniši, more than a month after she went missing.
Medical experts ruled out the possibility of a crime and confirmed that the likely cause of death was drowning. Forensic expert Nikos Kifnidis stated:
“There were no other injuries... I concluded that her death was caused by drowning in the water.”
He also emphasized that the swimsuit she was wearing helped in her identification, and witness accounts about a previous breast surgery were important in this process.
Chris, Michelle's husband, expressed deep regret as he had to identify his wife only by her bones. He also criticized the police for acting 'criminally slowly' during the search operations.
Michelle had left personal belongings, including glasses and medications, when she disappeared, and she was last seen in a beaded swimsuit, yellow shoes, and red glasses.

After her remains were found more than 40 km from where she disappeared, the cause of death was confirmed as drowning. Chris remarked:
“Identification took place this morning.”
He also added:
“I am absolutely devastated. I tried everything to identify my wife as she was just bones… this is tragic.”
Chris and Michelle met 36 years ago in Germany.

Chris was also a victim of prejudice. He recalled that his cries for help were initially ignored.
“She looked quite happy that day. We had a quick swim, but unfortunately, I fell asleep first, and when I woke up, she was already gone,”- Chris said.

Chris expressed dissatisfaction that the police did not conduct patrols on the beach and did not use methods that could assist in search operations. He noted:
“The police have no interest, they sit in the office in the shade or just stand under trees.”
Chris also said that his wife did not receive the help she needed at home.
“If she had gone to a psychiatrist earlier and gotten the appropriate medication, she might still be alive,”- he emphasized.
Michelle, who previously worked at BT and in the local council, struggled with depression for a long time. She had previously gone missing but was quickly found.
The couple enjoyed six weeks of vacation after visiting family. Chris remembers:
“She said how happy we were in our 40 years together, and I replied that I hope there are still 40 years ahead of us.”
