Russian Ground Forces Continue Offensive in Donetsk Region

Throughout July 2024, Russian ground forces continue their offensive in the central part of the Donetsk region. This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defence.

"The ground forces confidently advanced westward, taking control of several villages and approaching the logistics hub of Pokrovsk," the report said.

According to British intelligence, Russian troops also advanced north towards the city of New York. There are battles between the Russian army and the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the city.

"Russia is likely to continue its tactical offensive in the coming weeks. However, its overall operational capabilities remain limited by several factors, including high levels of attrition, limited training, and a shortage of officers," the Ministry of Defence's statement said.

It is worth noting that Russian troops maintained a high speed of attacks on the Toretsk direction and made advances in some areas.

Russia is increasingly using poorly trained irregular military formations in offensive operations against Ukraine. Earlier it was reported that more than 30 thousand National Guard of Russia personnel are currently stationed in Ukraine. Most of the personnel are engaged in rear security, and only a few units are participating in frontline battles.

By the way, the Russian command may withdraw some soldiers from the Kharkiv region after losses sustained by Wagner PMC mercenaries in Mali. Analysts suggest that the African Corps likely lacks the current capabilities to adequately replace Wagner PMC, particularly in Mali, as elements of the corps were recently deployed in Ukraine to participate in offensive efforts in northern Kharkiv region.
