Starmer: deployment of British troops in Ukraine will require parliamentary approval.
According to ТСН: The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, announced that any deployment of British troops in Ukraine will require parliamentary approval.
He also noted that he will regularly inform Parliament about current events and will bring the issue of troop deployment to a vote.
Determining the number of troops
Starmer added that the number of troops will be determined in accordance with the military plans of the United Kingdom that are currently being developed.
Discussions with the USA
He stated that during Christmas he spoke twice with US President Donald Trump regarding security guarantees for Ukraine. The Prime Minister assured legislators that
“there is no question of action on this matter without full discussion with the Americans”.
Support for the international coalition
This statement came immediately after the United States supported a broad coalition of Ukraine's allies, including the United Kingdom, promising security guarantees in the event of a new Russian attack.
Declaration on the future deployment of forces
Let us recall that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a declaration of intent regarding the deployment of multinational forces in Ukraine after the war is over.
These multinational forces will be established after a ceasefire and will ensure the security of air, sea, and land space for Ukraine.
The USA will participate as part of these forces, including intelligence and logistical capabilities, and also commits to supporting the forces in the event of an attack from Russia.
The position of the United Kingdom indicates the seriousness of the allies' intentions to strengthen Ukraine's security amid the threat posed by Russia. Parliamentary approval for troop deployment confirms the importance of democratic control in national security matters on an international level.
