The star of Great British Baking has closed all bakeries: 30 people without jobs.
Closure of The Pudding Stop stores
According to The Sun: The star of the show 'The Great British Bake Off' Johnny Shepherd has closed all his stores 'with a heavy heart' after 14 years of operation.
The Pudding Stop, managed by Shepherd, announced the unexpected closure of all its branches in Hertfordshire on Sunday, September 29.
The stores were famous for their hand-made donuts, brownies, pastries, and coffee.Shepherd gained popularity after participating in the BBC spin-off show “The Great British Bake Off: Extra Slice,” where his desserts became favorites among many viewers.
He also published his own cookbook simply titled “Desserts.”
Branches in St. Albans, Harpenden, Radlett, and Redbourn were closed.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the bakery said:
“It is no secret that the last few years have brought significant challenges, and we have tirelessly worked to keep The Pudding Stop.”
“With a heavy heart we made the difficult decision to close the business,”- added the post.
“From this morning, all locations remain closed until further notice.”
“Thank you for your support and loyalty – it has meant so much to us.”
This closure puts an end to more than a decade of success.
The Pudding Stop was founded in 2011 with a 'Pudmobile' stationed near St. Albans station. Two years later, Shepherd opened the first permanent store, thanks to the support of loyal customers.
Known for its hand-made donuts, brownies, pastries, and coffee, this business quickly won over consumers.
However, like many others in the hospitality industry, The Pudding Stop has faced difficulties in recent years.
Due to the closure, 30 employees have been left without jobs.
“Unfortunately, this means that 30 staff members are now looking for new jobs.”
“Some have worked with us for more than 10 years. It’s a devastating situation.”
Local residents quickly began sharing messages of support for their beloved bakery, thanking the staff for their dedication.
Challenges in the restaurant industry
Today, restaurant chains are facing difficulties as rising living costs have led to decreased consumer spending on dining out.
Many businesses are struggling to recover from the pandemic, causing some chains to close or reduce their operations.
In an update, the team stated that the closure has left 30 employees without work.
The company 'The Pudding Stop' became a symbol of success in its region, but the challenges it faced highlight how important it is for businesses to adapt to changing conditions. Closure is always a sad event for the local community, especially when it comes to businesses that have become favorites among consumers. Read also
