Bryson DeChambeau wants a match with McIlroy at the Ryder Cup: what Rory replied.
According to The Sun: Bryson DeChambeau is eagerly awaiting the revival of the rivalry with Rory McIlroy and hopes to play again in the Ryder Cup.
The players have already exchanged remarks after their victories at the US Open 2024 and Masters 2025. McIlroy, focusing on defending his green jacket at Augusta, avoided communication with DeChambeau on that memorable day.

McIlroy, who is 36, reignited the conflict with the 'lefty' revolutionary ahead of Bethpage Black. He noted that 'the only way to draw attention to yourself is to mention other people, like me and Scottie Scheffler'.
DeChambeau, 32, responding to a question about his relationship with McIlroy before a potential face-off in front of the crowd in New York, said:
“Rivalries are good for golf. I have tremendous respect for Rory as a player. It will be fun to play against him, whether it’s directly or through other players. Would I like to compete against him? Yes. I don’t know if there are plans behind the scenes, but he’s great and a fierce competitor, and I’d love to play with him.”
McIlroy did not comment on this dispute but admitted:
“It’s so easy to get caught up in narratives and to be excited about rivalries this week. If I run into Bryson at some point, I think it would be great for both the championship and for us.”
DeChambeau previously played in the Ryder Cup in Paris 2018 and Whistling Straits 2021, but was unable to qualify for Rome due to his move to the league backed by Saudi Arabia. He also missed last year’s Olympic Games.
This powerful player, known for his ability to drive 365 yards on the first par of golf, added:
“When I missed the Olympics due to Covid, it was quite a painful blow. I regret not being able to be in Rome. Seeing how guys lost really ignited a fire in me, and I want to be part of the team this time.”
True Emotions
“Feeling the highs and lows, missing Rome turned this Ryder Cup into my mission project,” DeChambeau said.
“Words are not enough to explain how passionate I am about this U.S. team.”
DeChambeau and his U.S. teammates will support their friend and president Donald Trump on Friday, 14 months after his appearance on a California golf YouTube channel. He believes Trump’s presence at Bethpage Black will only enhance America's chances:
“I hope he inspires us to win. I think he’ll be a powerful force for us, as he will draw a lot of people to his side.”
In contrast, Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre is less worried about Trump’s presence. He noted with his dry humor:
“It’s just another spectator. I’m playing golf. I’m not smart enough to worry about politics.”
