Bryan Robson on Manchester United: Three years for Amorim — otherwise nothing will change.
Bryan Robson calls to support Ruben Amorim
According to The Sun: Bryan Robson has urged Manchester United's management to give Ruben Amorim enough time to recover the team and criticized the club's recent failures in transfer policy.
The United legend noted that the frequent changes of coaches since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure in 2013 have led to a loss of stability. He emphasized that the new Sporting coach needs at least THREE years to improve the situation.
AFPRobson shared his thoughts in an interview with The Telegraph:
“We have changed coaches so many times since 2013. I believe we need to give a chance and say: 'No, we are not firing the coach. We are not blaming.' When you have a little money and the club allows you to change the squad, you need three years to fix everything. To me, three years at Manchester United should be enough.”
Criticism of the club's transfer policy
Despite Amorim's poor start, having won only eight of his first 31 games, Robson stresses the necessity of giving him more time, despite calls from fans on social media for his dismissal. He also did not hold back in criticizing the poor transfers during Ed Woodward's tenure.
“Look at the money we are spending. You should be looking for talented players around the world who can improve the team,” he noted.
“I think five years ago some of the players we were buying just were not good enough for Manchester United. It's an accumulation of problems.”
Robson, who managed the team during difficult times, believes the club has lost its way by turning away from experienced Premier League players in favor of hyped foreigners. “Another thing we have stepped away from is bringing in good, experienced players from the Premier League,” he added.
He emphasized:
“When I was in management, I believed that if you buy average players, you get an average team.”
United will have a chance to correct their mistakes after a derby defeat to Manchester City when they meet Chelsea at Old Trafford this Saturday.
