Unusual incident in the Wigan Athletic match

According to The Sun: The Carabao Cup match between Wigan Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers was interrupted due to an injury to the linesman.

The game at the DW Stadium in Wigan was stopped just seven minutes after it began when the referee was injured.

The delay lasted six minutes before the match resumed, but by that time the score remained 0:0.

Fans couldn't believe that the game had stopped, with one writing on X: “You joking me!”

Most comments were directed not only at the incident itself but also at how this situation reminded them of a previous case between these two teams.

Last year, the referee was also replaced in a League One match at the same stadium.

Referee Adam Hertzeg suffered a head injury due to a collision with players during the game in January 2024.

He had to leave the field, and instead, the fourth official was a fan.

One Wycombe fan commented: “This is a repeat of the referee's injury in Wigan on Tuesday night…”

Another fan added: “I have seen this before.”

Wigan fan joked: “We won’t play our matches against Wycombe anymore, all referees will refuse.”

After the game resumed, Wycombe managed to open the score: Kaolan Boyd-Mans struck the net from the edge of the penalty area in the 32nd minute, giving his team the advantage.

This incident highlights the complexities of modern football, where even the simplest moments can lead to unforeseen situations. As for the teams, both continue to fight for positions in the league, and such cases only add dynamics to their encounters.
