According to ТСН: Latvia has completed a major project on the construction of engineering barriers along the border with Russia.

This information was confirmed by the state company Valsts Nekustamie Īpašumi, which coordinated the implementation of the security project.

According to the Latvian side, the creation of a physical barrier is only the first stage of a comprehensive border protection system, and the country is already moving on to the next phase of work.

Development of the security system

Latvia's Minister of Internal Affairs, Rihards Kozlovskis, emphasized that after the construction of the fence is completed, the implementation of modern video surveillance and technical monitoring systems will continue. These systems are expected to ensure constant control over the eastern border of the EU.

“The physical barrier is just the beginning. We are consistently building a comprehensive border security system,” Kozlovskis noted.

In addition to the fence, roads for border patrol, technical platforms, and checkpoints have also been equipped, allowing border guards to respond quickly to potential threats and movements near the border.

Latvia has also sharply reacted to the new shelling of Kyiv and the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, calling on the international community to increase pressure on the aggressor country.

These measures demonstrate the deepening security cooperation of Latvia with other EU countries, as well as the readiness to counter potential threats. The implementation of such projects is important not only for internal security but also for the stability of the region as a whole.
