Ukraine expands drone defenses: over 200 km of roads now covered with protective nets.
Ukraine advances its anti-drone defense strategy
According to UATV: Ukraine is strengthening its defenses against drone attacks in frontline regions, particularly by equipping roads with specialized netting. On June 6, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced the expansion of the country's anti-drone protection. During May, more than 200 kilometers of roads were fitted with these nets, significantly improving safety amid ongoing threats from drone strikes.
In addition, nearly 38 kilometers of damaged road sections were repaired. The total length of protected routes now exceeds 820 kilometers. Furthermore, an additional 115.5 kilometers of roads in frontline areas have been restored.
'These measures help maintain resilient logistics, ensure rapid delivery of essential supplies, enable evacuation of the wounded, and allow safer movement for military personnel even under the constant threat of drone attacks.' — Mykhailo Fedorov
Why these measures matter for security
Ukraine's development of anti-drone defenses reflects its adaptation to new challenges in the ongoing conflict, particularly the widespread use of drones in combat. Extending the network of protected roads is crucial for sustaining logistics and enabling the safe transport of troops and supplies in high-risk areas.
These efforts are expected to bolster the overall effectiveness of Ukraine's defense strategy in modern warfare.
