The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic is going to Paris: will Prague continue to procure ammunition for Ukraine?

According to ТСН: The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babiš, plans to familiarize himself with the work of the 'coalition of the willing' during his visit to Paris.

He noted that the meeting, which will take place on January 6, will provide an opportunity to personally assess the activities of this organization.

“Tomorrow I will go to Paris for the first time for the meeting of the 'coalition of the willing', and I am curious about what will be discussed there, how it will be conducted, and whether anything specific will be addressed… I am glad to participate in this to form my own impression, to find out what the 'coalition of the willing' has really accomplished since its creation, and to learn what will happen next,” he noted.

Babiš also emphasized the consistency of the Czech Republic's strategic course, assuring that the country remains faithful to its international commitments.

“Of course, there are no changes in our foreign policy. We have clear allies and there is no discussion about any potential changes,” he emphasized.

At the same time, the Czech Republic's participation in the procurement of ammunition for Ukraine is still being discussed. Babiš stated that a final decision regarding the 'Czech initiative' will be made after the meeting of the National Security Council. He noted that he wants to obtain detailed information to avoid speculation regarding defense orders.

“The ammunition initiative is one of the points we will discuss there. We still need to clarify certain information, and it is about ensuring that in a time of war, no one is robbing Ukrainians on ammunition prices and that no one is profiting excessively from it,” the Prime Minister explained.

He also commented on internal discussions with coalition partners, particularly regarding disagreements with the 'Freedom and Direct Democracy' party. Babiš remarked that the final decision will remain with him, and when formulating his position on ammunition and the procurement of F-35 fighters, he will present it to the coalition council.

“Then we will either agree or disagree,” Babiš concluded.

Moreover, Babiš noted that although Prague supports Kyiv, the country is no longer willing to provide financial guarantees or allocate budget funds.

Let us recall that Zelensky earlier announced a planned meeting at the level of leaders of European countries participating in the 'coalition of the willing' on January 6.

The Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, issued a stern warning regarding the future of the European Union.

This significant visit of Babiš to Paris underscores the importance of international cooperation and the exchange of ideas during global challenges. The Czech Republic continues to support Ukraine but emphasizes the need for a clear approach to defense procurement issues. The meeting of the 'coalition of the willing' will be crucial in determining further steps in this area.
