Longer Lines at Ukraine’s Borders: Border Guards Reveal the Best Time to Travel.
Ukraine’s Summer Vacation Season
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine’s summer vacation season has begun, causing border queues to grow. Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, advises travelers to arrive at checkpoints in the morning. The optimal time to cross is between Monday and Friday during the early hours, when most border points see almost no lines for departures.
Rising Passenger Traffic
In the spring months, roughly 400 buses crossed the border, but last weekend alone saw 580 buses. This increase highlights a surge in passenger flow. On June 20, 130,000 people crossed the border, and on June 21, that number rose to 136,000. June 2023 set a record for border crossings. Half of all departures occur at the Ukrainian-Polish border, while 20% take place at the border with Moldova.
Andriy Demchenko notes that passenger traffic is hard to predict, and the best approach is to monitor real-time border queue updates.
Queue information is refreshed every three hours, allowing travelers to adjust their plans accordingly. Following border guards’ recommendations is key to avoiding long waits at the frontier.
The rise in passenger traffic at Ukraine’s borders in summer 2023 reflects a broader trend of increased population mobility, likely driven by improved economic conditions and the lifting of travel restrictions. By heeding border guards’ advice and planning trips during morning hours, Ukrainians can significantly cut down on wait times, making for a smoother summer getaway. Keeping an eye on the latest queue data helps prevent unexpected delays during journeys.
