Best Time to Cross into Poland from Ukraine Revealed: New EU Rules Come into Effect.
Current State of the Ukraine-Poland Border
According to Espreso.tv: Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, has provided an update on conditions at the Ukraine-Poland border, which handles roughly half of all passenger traffic. The busiest congestion points are typically at the 'Shehyni' and 'Krakivets' checkpoints. Demchenko also highlighted a new European Union initiative involving an automated entry-exit registration system.
Automated Entry-Exit Registration System
On April 10, the European Union launched the Entry/Exit System (EES), an automated platform designed to streamline border crossing procedures. The EES collects travelers' biographical and biometric data, with the entire registration process taking approximately 70 seconds.
“In the morning, at most checkpoints, there are either no lines at all, or just a few dozen cars waiting.”

This data indicates that the optimal time to cross the border is on weekdays during the early morning hours. The lowest likelihood of queues occurs in the morning, while peak congestion tends to build around midday and into the evening.
Thanks to new technologies introduced under the EES framework, the situation at the Ukraine-Poland border is showing signs of improvement. These advancements can significantly ease border crossings for travelers by reducing wait times and queue lengths. At the same time, guidance on the best times to cross can help travelers plan their trips more efficiently, allowing them to avoid peak traffic at border checkpoints.
