Former Arsenal player in artificial coma after brain injury: match postponed.
Match postponed due to serious injury to Vigar
According to The Sun: The CHICHESTER CITY team has decided to postpone their next match after Billy Vigar was placed in an artificial coma due to a serious head injury.
The 21-year-old former Arsenal player suffered a severe injury in Chichester's last match against Wingate and Finchley.
GettyLast weekend's game was halted due to a serious collision involving Vigar near the sideline.
This incident occurred just 15 minutes after the match began.
He was given immediate first aid, and then a helicopter rushed him to the hospital.
The Chichester match was canceled when the club confirmed that Vigar had suffered a head injury.
“Billy has sustained a serious head injury and is currently in an artificial coma in intensive care, receiving the best possible treatment. It is too early to talk about outcomes, and even if everything goes well, we have a long road to recovery ahead.”
“We love you, Billy, from all of us at CCFC.”
Chichester was planning to hold a match against Lewis this weekend, but due to Vigar's condition, the decision to postpone it was made.
The club confirmed: “This Saturday's match has been postponed. A new date will be set later.”
Many in the football community are expressing their support for Vigar.
One fan noted: “This is a traumatic event for everyone involved, a terrible incident. Our thoughts are with the player, his family, and everyone at the club.”
Another fan added: “Thoughts are with him. This sounds absolutely horrific.”
Vigar had his youth career at Arsenal, starting at 14 years old. He progressed to the U21 team, providing loans to Derby County U21 and Eastbourne.
In 2024, he left the club due to inability to break into the first team and joined Hastings United in the non-league, before later moving to Chichester.
This incident serves as a troubling reminder of the risks associated with football and the importance of medical support during matches. Fans and fellow players are hopeful for his quick recovery and return to the game.
