Expert on chances for peace with Russia: why negotiations may fail

According to ТСН: The likelihood of signing a peace agreement that could guarantee security for Ukraine and comply with international law remains quite low.

This opinion was expressed by the director of the Kyiv Security Forum, Danilo Lubkivskiy, in an interview with "Radio Free Europe".

Illusion of negotiations and Kremlin's 'madness'

The expert urged Ukrainians and international partners to abandon any illusions regarding the negotiation process. He noted that, despite diplomatic efforts, the situation indicates Moscow's unwillingness to make compromises.

"It is obvious that Russia will do everything to avoid losing positions. Putin, as we see from his rhetoric, acts madly. He believes that there is enough reserve and strength in Russia, and economic potential to continue this war. Thus, the likelihood that the agreements and ideas reached in Berlin will be acceptable to Putin is low," emphasized Lubkivskiy.

Kremlin's psychological weapon: the myth of the 'invincible Russia'

Lubkivskiy also pointed out a hidden component of the war - a massive psychological operation by the Kremlin, aimed at convincing the world that the aggressor cannot be stopped, and therefore, Ukraine should give in.

"There is another very important, fundamentally important track that we do not notice because it is so inconspicuous, as if it is some air that exists around us. This is the track of psychological operations carried out by the Kremlin. The Kremlin imposes it on Ukrainians, Europeans, Americans, and the entire world. Two simple things. These are the two sides of the same coin. The first is that Russia is invincible. And the second side is that Russia cannot be stopped," explained the diplomat.

Danilo Lubkivskiy underscored that the responsibility for a possible failure of peace plans lies entirely with the aggressor. He noted that if an agreement compliant with international law is not signed, it will not be the fault of the Ukrainian side or negotiators.

"It is hard to admit, but the risk that Russia will do everything to avoid peace is high. And this is not the fault of Ukraine or our negotiation team. This is Russia's fault," summarized Danilo Lubkivskiy.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin again announced the intention to expand control over Ukrainian territories if negotiations to end the war with the mediation of the USA do not take place.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the aggressive rhetoric of Vladimir Putin is not new, but Russia's ability to continue the war directly depends on the pressure from the West.

Research on international sentiments shows that global progress in negotiations depends on the readiness of all parties to engage in dialogue. Lubkivskiy emphasized the need for a firm position from Western allies, as this affects not only stability in Ukraine but also the stability of the entire region. As long as Russia does not demonstrate an intention to cease aggression, the peace process will remain under threat.
