If potatoes start to sprout, consuming them becomes hazardous to health. You can easily get poisoned.

The level of the toxic substance solanine increases significantly in sprouted potatoes, writes glavred.net.

This substance is also present in freshly dug potatoes, but in very small amounts - from 2 to 10 mg per 100 g of the product. In such quantities, it cannot significantly harm the body. At the same Time, fresh potatoes contain a lot of vitamins and nutrients, so consuming them is only beneficial.

But in potatoes stored over the winter, the vitamin content sharply decreases as of January, while the level of solanine increases. Most of this substance is found near the skin and around the areas where sprouts grow - there 80-90% of the solanine found in the potato accumulates.

However, sprouted potatoes can still be consumed, but you need to handle them properly. First and foremost, while peeling, a thick layer of skin - about 2-3 mm - should be cut off. In addition, well cut out the areas from which the sprouts grow. The sprouts themselves are also very toxic, just like the areas where the potato has turned green.

Many consider potatoes as a product that doesn't help much with weight loss. This is all due to the high carbohydrate content. In reality, according to studies, potatoes are quite rich in nutrients. Apart from carbohydrates, they contain fiber, proteins, vitamin C, vitamins B3 and B6, iron, magnesium, potassium, copper, and manganese.

Scientists tested the impact of potatoes on weight loss. Two groups of people followed a low-calorie diet for a certain period, but in one group, potatoes were part of the diet. As a result, both groups lost weight, indicating that potatoes do not cause weight gain.
