Potato prices have sharply fallen: what is the reason and what will the price be in October.
According to inkorr.com: Potato prices in Ukraine have suddenly decreased, according to information from 'Hvylya'. Large supermarkets are already selling young potatoes for 21.61 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 7 hryvnias cheaper than in July. Experts predict that potato prices will continue to fall and may reach up to 10 hryvnias per kilogram by October.
Andriy Marushchak, commercial director of 'Van Dyke Technics': 'Such a low price will not last long, only at the very beginning of the harvest season. After that, the price of potatoes may rise again.'
The specialist believes that a possible maintenance of potato prices at around 10 hryvnias per kilogram in October during the harvest is possible, but it is also possible that the previous prices of 5 hryvnias per kilogram will return.
In addition, the Ukrainian Potato Producers Association reported that some farms have doubled their potato production this year, which may lead to further price reductions due to oversupply in the market. According to 'Minfin', prices for young potatoes range from 16.02 to 27.20 hryvnias per kilogram in different supermarkets, where Metro sells it for 16.02 UAH/kg, and Auchan for 27.20 UAH/kg.
Analysis of currency rates until the end of August
Analysts also made a forecast regarding the exchange rates of the dollar and euro by the end of August.
The decrease in potato prices in Ukraine may be related to increased production of this product on farms. If supply exceeds demand in the market, prices may continue to decrease. Currently, consumers have the opportunity to enjoy affordable and high-quality potatoes, though prices may fluctuate over the next few months.
