Watermelon Prices in Ukraine — How Much Do the Cheapest Cost.

Summer is in full swing, and along with it comes the watermelon season. This juicy berry has long become a symbol of hot days, picnics, and family gatherings. So many Ukrainians are interested in how this year's favorite summer taste affects their wallets.

Watermelon Prices in Supermarkets

The choice of watermelons on the shelves of capital stores is impressive today — customers are offered organic, yellow, seedless, long, and even mini (weighing no more than 3 kg) varieties. However, we decided to find out how much the usual watermelons with seeds and juicy red pulp cost.

So the cheapest offer today, July 11, is at the Metro chain — 19.88 UAH/kg.

• Ultramarket — 22.90 UAH/kg;
• Novus — 22.99 UAH/kg;
• Auchan — 26.90 UAH/kg;
• Silpo — 28.50 UAH/kg;
• Fruit Time — 28.50 UAH/kg;
• ECO Marketing — 28.90 UAH/kg.

As for the price of more 'exotic' varieties, seedless watermelons cost from 52.99 UAH/kg, yellow ones from 69.90 UAH/kg, and long ones from 64.90 UAH/kg.

When Will Watermelons Become Cheaper

Currently, as economist Oleg Pendzin explained to RBC-Ukraine, watermelons are mainly presented by imports, although a few watermelons from Odesa are beginning to appear. However, the main crop of watermelons, which came from central Ukraine last year, is still absent due to unfavorable weather conditions for ripening. Because of this, the season has been delayed by 10-15 days.

However, according to the expert, starting from the third decade of July, prices will begin to fall, as watermelons from Ukrainian fields will arrive.

Oleg Pendzin believes that the price of watermelons will decrease to 15-20 UAH per kilogram. There will be no shortage in stores and markets, as, in addition to domestic products, there will also be imported goods.

Information on watermelon prices in several supermarkets in Kyiv has been presented, as well as predictions on when a decrease in prices for this delicious berry can be expected. The watermelon season in Ukraine has been prolonged due to insufficient favorable weather conditions for their ripening, but with the arrival of the harvest from Ukrainian fields, prices may drop to 15-20 UAH per kilogram.
