A 35-Year-Old Patient in China Lived with a Lighter in His Stomach: How Doctors Extracted It.
According to ТСН: In China, doctors used a condom to extract a lighter from a patient's stomach, which had been there for 35 years.
A resident of Chengdu went to the hospital due to constant discomfort and bloating. During an endoscopy, specialists found a black rectangular object — it turned out to be a lighter. The man immediately recalled how it got into his stomach.
“Somewhere around 1991 or 1992, I was drinking with a friend, and he challenged me to swallow a lighter. I swallowed it right away,” said the Chinese man.
After that incident, the man did not experience serious health issues, only occasional stomach pains. He thought that the lighter would dissolve by itself.
Doctors attempted to extract the object with forceps, but the slippery surface made this task difficult. Then they came up with an original solution: they carefully put a condom over the lighter and extracted it without any difficulties. The entire procedure took about 20 minutes. The doctors noted that the patient was very lucky, as if gas from the lighter had entered the gastric juice, it could have led to serious damage to the organ.
This case became a real lesson about the importance of paying attention to one's health, as well as the interesting methods that doctors can use in critical situations. Despite the absurdity of the event, it is important to remind that safe practices and a conscious approach to one's health can prevent many problems.
