Europe's Deadly Heat Wave: Over 1,300 Deaths and 150 Million at Risk.
Record-Breaking Heat Across Europe
According to Novyny.live: Since June 21, Europe has recorded more than 1,300 fatalities linked to extreme heat. The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that approximately 150 million people are currently exposed to dangerous weather conditions. Alarmingly, temperatures across the continent are rising at twice the global average rate, fueling serious concerns.
Once considered a once-in-a-generation event, severe heat waves have now become an annual occurrence due to global warming. This trend significantly heightens health risks, especially for vulnerable populations.
As WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated: 'Around 150 million people are now living in life-threatening weather conditions.'
In response to these extreme weather events, the WHO is urging EU governments to implement population protection plans. Recommended measures include:
- public awareness campaigns
- development of strategies to mitigate heat-related risks
The situation demands immediate action to safeguard public health and prevent further tragedies. These events underscore the growing threat that global warming poses to the European continent. As heat waves become more routine, countries must adapt their infrastructure and healthcare systems to ensure adequate safety for their citizens. How governments respond during this critical period could determine Europe's ability to cope with the long-term consequences of climate change.
