Andriy Shevchenko's Sister's Husband Could Have Paid $20,000 to Illegally Cross the Border – Media.
In connection with the illegal border crossing scheme, 20 people were detained, who allegedly paid $20,000 each. According to the preliminary version of the investigation, this scheme was organized by police officers and border guards from the Zakarpattia region. Among the clients were a designer, a former judge, a former advisor to Yanukovych, and the sister of footballer Shevchenko. All of them had contacts with the police officer and crossed the border at two checkpoints. This is reported by the website «Slidstvo.Info».
In March 2022, Yan Miksha, the deputy head for preventive activities of the Berehove District Police Department, is suspected of illegally facilitating the crossing of 20 men across the state border of Ukraine at the «Kosyno» and «Luzhanka» checkpoints.
According to prosecutor Roman Krupka, Miksha personally controlled the border crossing process to avoid document checks and vehicle inspections. According to testimonies, clients paid at least $20,000 for each border crossed, with the total amount of illegally earned money amounting to $400,000.
Investigators established that all 20 individuals who used the services of this organized group communicated with Miksha by phone. This is evidenced by mobile operators' data. The investigation also has testimonies and video records from surveillance cameras at the checkpoints, as well as confirmations from the Hungarian side about these individuals entering the country.
For example, a mobile operator recorded a conversation between Olena Shevchenko, Andriy Shevchenko’s sister, and Miksha a few days before traveling abroad. She crossed the border with her mother on March 20, 2022. However, Andriy Vasyurenko, Olena's husband, entered Hungary secretly, driving his wife's car. He appeared at the checkpoint from the Hungarian side.
Olena Shevchenko denies knowing Yan Miksha. She says her husband had no official duties and had all necessary documents to cross the border.
In May 2022, Andriy Shevchenko posted a photo with Olena on his Instagram page, noting they met in Milan. They now hope to return home to Kyiv soon.
