Court Ruling on Unemployment Assistance

According to Novyny.live: A court has ordered a man from Dnipro to return over 12,000 Ukrainian hryvnias in unemployment benefits he unlawfully received while living abroad. Authorities found that he collected these payments for nearly three months between May and November 2022. However, during that period, he traveled overseas and stayed outside the country from July 9 to October 28, 2022—a total of 112 days.

Under Ukrainian law, unemployment benefits are canceled if a recipient remains abroad for more than 30 consecutive calendar days. Because the man exceeded this limit, the court ruled to recover 12,062.99 hryvnias of the illegally obtained aid. Additionally, the court imposed 3,028 hryvnias in court fees on him.

Minimum and Maximum Benefit Amounts

It is worth noting that as of January 1, 2023, the minimum unemployment benefit in Ukraine is 3,900 hryvnias, while the maximum is 8,647 hryvnias. This case highlights the importance of complying with social welfare regulations, as violations can lead to serious financial consequences.

The situation underscores the need for oversight of social benefit disbursements, especially amid wartime and economic instability. In Ukraine, where unemployment is a significant challenge, it is critical to ensure that financial aid reaches those who genuinely need it rather than being misused. Citizens bear the responsibility for proper use of social payments, and such incidents serve as a cautionary tale for others who might attempt to exploit the system.
