Russia modernizes Shaheds: how drones now exchange data in the air.
According to ТСН: The enemy is changing its tactics for using drones, aiming to complicate the work of the Ukrainian defense. Now, Shaheds not only follow predetermined coordinates, but also use more complex algorithms for navigation and interaction.
This was reported on the air of the "24 Channel" by aviation expert, director of a defense enterprise Anatoliy Khrapchynskiy.
Changes in Navigation Algorithms
According to Khrapchynskiy, an important innovation was the implementation of mesh communication technology. This approach allows a group of drones to exchange data during flight.
The expert emphasized that if one drone detects a threat or an area of effect from the Ukrainian air defense, it can transmit this information to other drones. Thus, drones flying behind receive "hints" about safer routes.
"This allows the enemy to adjust the flight trajectory in real-time, avoiding blind spots and traps,"the expert noted.
Use of Belarusian Infrastructure
Another threat was the use of infrastructure in Belarus. The expert indicated that the Russian troops are developing their own system of coordinates, using mobile communication towers and special antennas in Belarus.
This solution makes Shaheds more resilient to satellite navigation (GNSS) jamming. Even in case of GPS jamming by Ukrainian electronic warfare means, the drones continue to navigate using alternative communication channels and improved antennas.
Khrapchynskiy stressed that such technical changes require new approaches from Ukraine in terms of defense. Traditional electronic warfare means are becoming insufficient—the necessity for early target detection and their destruction before reaching Ukrainian cities comes to the forefront.
It should be noted that recently the Russian army launched a combined strike on Ukraine's critical infrastructure facilities. The invaders used strike UAVs, sea and ground-based missiles, including medium-range ballistic missiles, with the main target being the Kyiv region.
These new enemy tactics emphasize the need to adapt the Ukrainian defense strategy to ensure the country's security. The development of drones and changes in their tactics require careful monitoring and rapid response from Ukrainian forces. A qualitative modernization of defensive means may become a decisive factor in this confrontation.
