Ukraine Launches State-Funded Research Grants
According to Novyny.live: Starting in 2026, the Ukrainian government will roll out a new stipend program for scientists. Over 190 million hryvnias have been allocated in the national budget to support 2,650 of the country's top researchers. Each recipient will receive 10,000 hryvnias per month for a period of two years.
This initiative is designed to retain and empower highly skilled professionals in the scientific sector.
“This is support for the first 2,650 best scientists in the country,” said Yuliia Svyrydenko, underscoring the importance of such measures for advancing Ukrainian science. The first payments are scheduled for 2026, providing researchers with consistent financial aid to further their work.
Selection Criteria and Broader Support for Science
While the exact criteria for selecting recipients have yet to be announced, the government has emphasized its commitment to a transparent monthly stipend model for both male and female researchers. This approach reflects the authorities' dedication to fostering research and innovation across Ukraine.
The state's backing aims not only to incentivize scientists but also to improve conditions for conducting research. Better funding and stability could, in turn, have a positive impact on the country's scientific output and global standing.
The introduction of these new grants represents a significant step toward encouraging talented researchers to stay in Ukraine and pursue innovative projects. It may also inspire more young people to choose careers in science, ultimately boosting the competitiveness of Ukrainian research internationally. Given the current challenges facing the scientific community, such initiatives could substantially improve the landscape for research and development.
