Russia's Black Sea Fleet Fits Submarines with Drone-Proof Cages.
Russia Upgrades Its Black Sea Fleet
According to UATV: The Russian Black Sea Fleet has started equipping its submarines with protective cages specifically designed to counter unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The UK Ministry of Defense has confirmed this development. Satellite imagery analysis shows that Kilo-class submarines have already been outfitted with these structures.
Kilo-Class Submarine Capabilities
Kilo-class submarines can travel at speeds of up to 20 knots when submerged. Their weaponry includes:
- torpedoes
- naval mines
- Kalibr cruise missiles
Despite these upgrades, Ukrainian defense forces continue to carry out their operations, striking the command center for Black Sea Fleet warships in Sevastopol. These actions highlight the tense situation in the region and the ongoing risks to Russian military activities in the Black Sea.
Recent events point to an escalation of military activity in the Black Sea, with both sides adapting to new threats, particularly from drones. Fitting submarines with protective cages likely reflects Russia's growing concern over the safety of its military assets. It also underscores that the conflict in this area remains a critical element in the wider geopolitical landscape.
