Ukrainians were told which button should not be pressed on the ATM to avoid losing money from the card.
According to the National Bank of Ukraine, many Ukrainians rarely use bank cards. About a third of people under 50 and half of people over 50 do not use cards for payments.
Recently, more and more people are returning to cash transactions through ATMs. This is due to new restrictions from the National Bank, which has introduced stricter control over banking operations and established certain limits.
This trend is particularly noticeable in retail. According to store employees, fewer and fewer customers pay with cards, preferring cash instead.
The popularity of salary card holders is growing. They prefer to immediately withdraw cash through ATMs, considering this method of managing finances to be more controlled.
To save money, it is recommended to use ATMs of the bank that issued the card. Withdrawing cash from 'foreign' ATMs may incur additional fees, which will increase expenses if done regularly.
First of all, basic precautions should be taken: do not show the PIN code to anyone and check the ATM for damage or suspicious devices to protect against fraudsters who may attempt to steal the card.
Particular attention should be paid to the final stage of the operation. After withdrawing cash, the ATM asks about additional transactions and the need to print a receipt. These questions should be taken seriously because the receipt contains confidential information – account balance and card details.
If you want to print a receipt, be sure to take it. Leaving a receipt in the ATM may put it in the hands of criminals who may use the information provided for their purposes. It is also important to check the data on the receipt – if you notice anything suspicious or inconsistent with your transaction, report it to the bank immediately.
Cybersecurity experts recommend refusing paper receipts when using an ATM if they are not needed for special purposes. When the ATM asks about a receipt, it is safer to choose the 'no receipt needed' option or press 'cancel.'
This simple action will help protect your financial data from fraudsters. Even if you take the receipt with you, it may still get lost or end up in the trash, where criminals can take it.
Moreover, you can now view your transaction history in the bank's mobile app or online banking – this is a safer way to track your transactions than keeping paper receipts.
