Denmark stands up for Greenland against US territorial claims.
Greenland has received a pledge of support from Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in its dispute with the US over ownership. She stressed that the island belongs to the Greenlanders, not the Americans.
Frederiksen stated that she would support Greenland in difficult times and foster cooperation between Copenhagen and the island. The Greenlandic Prime Minister also confirmed that Denmark is Greenland's closest partner.
Additionally, Frederiksen committed to ensuring equal rights for the residents of Greenland and discussing issues of foreign and security policy. Many residents of Greenland support independence from Denmark, but are concerned that under US control this may harm their interests.
At the same time, relations between Greenland and Denmark have soured due to negative historical events, but US interest has made Denmark active in improving relations with Greenland. Overall, Denmark aims to enhance relations with the island and ensure equal rights for Greenlanders.
