Ukrainian MP Warns of IMF Funding Loss and VAT Relief Changes for Entrepreneurs.
Threats to Ukraine's Economy and International Support
According to Novyny.live: In an interview with Novyny.LIVE, Danilo Getmantsev, a Member of Parliament from the 'Servant of the People' party and head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy, outlined significant economic risks facing Ukraine. He warned that the country could lose crucial funding from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Getmantsev also stressed the importance of the debate over canceling Value Added Tax (VAT) exemptions for private entrepreneurs, known as FOPs in Ukraine.
The conversation also covered outcomes from the international economic forum in Davos, where Ukraine's interests were discussed. In the context of peace negotiations, the possibility of an energy-related ceasefire with Russia was raised. Getmantsev addressed the issue of Ukraine's macro-financial stability and planned changes to the 2026 budget, which include raising teachers' salaries. These discussions occur as Ukraine's economy remains under severe strain due to the ongoing war.
The Critical Role of International Backing
Getmantsev's warnings about potential IMF funding cuts highlight how vital continued international partner support is for Ukraine's economic stability. The proposed removal of VAT benefits for private entrepreneurs could significantly impact small businesses, a sector that is critically important amid the country's broader economic challenges. The reference to the Davos forum underscores the ongoing relevance of securing global backing for Ukraine during a period of war and uncertainty.
