Danny Drinkwater on life at Chelsea: He drank and got to know any girl.
According to The Sun: Danny Drinkwater revealed that during his lively parties in London, he was always "ready to talk to any girl."
BackGridThe now 35-year-old midfielder, who retired in 2022, was unable to achieve success at Chelsea as he had during his time at Leicester City. He joined Chelsea in 2017 for 35 million pounds, but later his career took a downturn.
Drinkwater played only 12 Premier League matches for Chelsea, scoring one goal, while he had a total of just 23 matches for the club.
He claims that coach Maurizio Sarri tried to force him out of the club, giving him just an hour to make a decision, but Drinkwater refused. After that, he went on loan to several clubs but failed to regain his form.
Experiences and Challenges
His career was also affected by family issues: the death of his grandparents and his father's illness. The athlete suffered injuries and received a 20-month ban for driving under the influence after an accident.
Opening up details about his life, he admitted that his drinking negatively affected his professional activities. He said:
“I was a young guy in London, trying to enjoy life to cover up my problems.”
Drinkwater shared that his ban was a turning point:
“I spent 23 hours in a cell and thought: ‘What are you doing, man? This isn’t you.’”
End of Career
He regarded his time at Chelsea as “rubbish” and admitted feeling frustrated about losing potentially the best years of his life.
Today's decision to retire seems valuable to him:
“I’m ready for it, not stopping at the peak, and it eased the transition.”
