Barry Hearn became Phil Taylor's manager without his knowledge

According to The Sun: Phil Taylor shared how Barry Hearn unexpectedly became his manager without even informing the dart player himself.

Taylor, who is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of darts, has won 87 major titles over thirty years.

Taylor, who has won 16 world championship titles, may remain unparalleled even as new talents like Luke Littler emerge.

It is worth noting that Hearn became Taylor's manager even though the dart player had no idea about it. Hearn, who took over PDC in 2001, represented Taylor's interests for almost two decades.

Taylor was astonished to learn about Hearn's new role when he confessed that he paid Taylor's previous manager to take over those duties.

Taylor recalled on Steve Hendry's show: 'I received a call from an unknown number. I answered: 'Hello?'. He said: 'Phil, Barry Hearn'. I asked: 'Really? When?'. He replied: 'Now'. I said: 'What do you mean? I already have a manager'.

'He replied: 'No, I gave him money, he left. Now I am your manager'. He asked if I wanted a contract, and I replied that I didn’t particularly care. I will tell him the truth. If I do an exhibition match for 50 pounds, I will tell him I owe him ten pounds.

'He has been great for me. It is important for him to get his share, and he is a workaholic.'

Barry Hearn, for his part, fondly recalls the times managing Taylor and emphasizes that he made darts a global sport.

Hearn said: 'In 1981, Steve Davis won the world championship in snooker, which certainly changed my life. There were a few moments that were close. [Nigel] Benn against [Chris] Eubank in 1990, when I had Eubank as my first real world champion, and that changed my opportunities in the boxing world.

'Managing Phil Taylor in darts and transforming darts from a pub game into a global sport was one of the most valuable moments in my life, and Phil Taylor deserves all the credit for this, as he is a true legend.'

This situation highlights how important a manager's role can be in an athlete's career. Unexpected changes in management can truly impact the development of a young star and their success in the world of sports. Taylor and Hearn together created a new chapter in the history of darts, and undoubtedly, their collaboration will leave a mark in the memory of many fans of this sport.
