According to The Sun: ROSS SMITH revealed that he played darts to avoid "breaking down" after losing his mother. The world number 14 recorded an average of 94.95 and impressively finished the match with 128 points, allowing him to defeat Peter Wright 6-2 in Dortmund and advance to the second round.
The player from Dover shared that his mother passed away in September, and he is still trying to come to terms with this loss.
"I played to avoid despair," recalled Smith.
