The SBI detained the head of the financial service of the brigade: he embezzled almost 10 million hryvnias for military payments.
Detention of the head of the financial and economic service
According to TSN.ua: The State Bureau of Investigation detained the head of the financial and economic service of the combat brigade in the Zaporizhzhia direction, suspected of embezzling 9.7 million hryvnias allocated for payments to military personnel. The detention took place in 2025, after the official had unauthorizedly left the military unit in April of the same year.
Actions of the suspect
According to information, the suspect opened 14 bank accounts in different financial institutions, to which he transferred funds belonging to the military. In connection with these actions, the suspect has been charged under Articles 190, 209, and 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces up to 12 years in prison with asset confiscation.
The preventive measure chosen by the court involves custody with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 12.5 million hryvnias. The procedural management of this case is carried out by the Zaporizhzhia Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Eastern region.
This case highlights serious corruption issues in military structures that can undermine combat readiness and trust in the army.
The detention of the official indicates the law enforcement agencies' commitment to ensure financial transparency and accountability in the use of budget funds, especially in wartime conditions. It is important that such cases are investigated and punished to prevent similar offenses in the future.
