Ukraine Secures €236 Million for Social Benefits and Pensions Under World Bank Deal.
Funding from the World Bank
According to Espreso.tv: Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has announced that €236 million has been deposited into the state budget as part of the World Bank's PEACE in Ukraine project, which was launched four years ago. The funds, provided by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development with a guarantee from the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden, will be allocated to cover essential social expenditures and pension payments.
As of June 10, total disbursements under the program have reached €53.5 billion. Additionally, parliament has approved amendments to the 2026 state budget, increasing spending on security and defense by 1.56 trillion Ukrainian hryvnias.
Yulia Svyrydenko: 'We deeply appreciate the substantial and timely support from our friends and partners, which strengthens Ukraine amid Russia's full-scale invasion.'
Why This Support Matters
This World Bank financing represents a critical step in sustaining Ukraine's social programs, especially during wartime. The boost in security and defense allocations in the 2026 budget underscores the government's top priorities. Such international backing is vital for stabilizing the country and ensuring social protection for its citizens as it navigates severe economic challenges.
