Where in Ukraine is granite and the largest deposit for extraction.
Granite is not only a durable but also a very beautiful material, from which popular tiles and cobblestones are made. It is known that this precious rock has been used for construction since ancient times. Today, there are about 200 places on the planet where granite is actively extracted, including in Ukraine.
Where and what granite is extracted in Ukraine
According to the Institute of Geology of Ukraine, there are more than 20 granite quarries in the country, most of which are located in the Zhytomyr region:
- Omelyanivske and Leznikovske deposits;
- Gabbro-Bukynske deposit;
- Korostyshiv quarry;
- Pokostivskyi quarry;
- Osnykivske deposit;
- Mezhyrichenske deposit.
In addition to Zhytomyr, granite is produced in various regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, and Vinnytsia regions.
'The undisputed leader in reserves is the Korostyshiv deposit in the Zhytomyr region, where both crushed stone and block stone are extracted. Total proven reserves here exceed 13 million cubic meters. Granites from Korostyshiv, due to their high aesthetic qualities and wear resistance, are in demand not only in Ukraine but also abroad, thus a significant part of the production is exported,'- says the website of the Institute of Geology.
The uniqueness of Ukrainian granite
National granite has very high strength and diversity of rocks. Among the advantages worth noting:
- Availability - due to extensive deposits, Ukrainian granite is cheaper than imported analogues.
- Environmental friendliness - this material is completely safe for the environment.
- Durability - thanks to its strength and stability, granite stands out for its durability; therefore, its use in construction is beneficial.
- Versatility - granite can be used for various design solutions.
