The Ukrainian government plans to improve the image of working professions by adopting a new law on vocational education. The main motivators will be the salary level and the opportunity to start a career quickly. This is necessary due to the high demand for welders, excavator operators, electricians, installers, and builders in the labor market. This was stated by the chairman of the education committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Serhii Babak.
Advantages of working specialties in 2025
According to the chairman of the education committee of the VRU, the most in-demand specialties in the Ukrainian labor market will be working specialties. Citizens in such positions will be able to earn from 50 to 100 thousand hryvnias per month. This is a high salary compared to accountants and lawyers, who can expect 20-40 thousand hryvnias. In addition to the economic aspect, this will give young people the opportunity to start a financially decent life faster without long studies at higher educational institutions. The key advantages of vocational education will be: salary, quick career start, and the availability of a large number of job offers.'In fact, today, graduates of vocational schools often earn significantly higher starting salaries than those with higher education. For example, an excavator operator earns 50-100 thousand hryvnias per month, while a young accountant or lawyer earns 20–40 thousand, so the labor market shows it all. And these people – professional specialists – will rebuild our country. The demand for them is enormous, and accordingly, attractive salaries will follow. Therefore, our first task is to raise the prestige of vocational education'
Reform of vocational education in Ukraine
According to Babak, state policy must provide young people with information about the advantages of working professions and change perceptions about studying in vocational education institutions. The new law on vocational education envisages reforming the material and technical base of vocational education, cooperating with employers, financial support for students, the employment process, and attitudes towards working professions. It is also planned to change the approach to teachers' salaries in vocational education institutions, including incentives in the form of bonuses and rewards. Earlier, the importance of knowing about the possibility of working part-time and improving labor legislation on employee termination was noted. The advantages of working professions are increasingly being recognized, and the new law on vocational education in Ukraine aims to create favorable conditions for the development of this sphere. Changes in the material and technical base, financial support for students, and cooperation with employers should help make working specialties more attractive to young people and provide them with a quick start in professional development.Read also
