Two Russian agents detained in Odesa: they were spying on the Armed Forces of Ukraine and setting fire to transformers.
Two men from Kyiv arrived in Odesa to spy on the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and to set fire to transformer booths. However, they were discovered and detained by law enforcement, facing life imprisonment.
This was reported by the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Details of the case
In 2022, one of the suspects voluntarily contacted a representative of the Russian special services. Agreeing to cooperate, the accused involved a friend in the criminal activity.
Having moved from Kyiv, the men rented two apartments in Odesa, where they created observation posts. The suspects regularly gathered intelligence data on military units, engineering fortifications, the number of weapons, and fortification equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the region. They took photos and video reports, as well as determined coordinates on maps using online services.
What punishment awaits
The suspects have been informed of charges under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine related to treason, sabotage, intentional damage to critical infrastructure, illegal handling of weapons and explosives. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
As a reminder, we recently wrote about a couple who committed sabotage in Odesa region. Also about a man who set his acquaintance on fire.
The events described in the news indicate attempts of espionage and sabotage activities on the territory of Ukraine. The detention of these individuals is an important step in countering such illegal actions that threaten the security of the country and its citizens.Read also
