EU to Weigh Opening Sixth Negotiation Cluster for Ukraine on July 8.
Sixth Cluster for Ukraine on the Horizon
According to UATV: On July 8, the European Union is set to deliberate on launching the sixth negotiation cluster for Ukraine, alongside reviewing the findings of the screening process for the external relations chapter. This matter will be put to a vote by the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU, scheduled for that same day.
A working group on enlargement convened on July 3 to address issues tied to this process. Notably, Hungary’s representative has already approved the endorsement of the screening results. If the decision is favorable, the sixth cluster for both Ukraine and Moldova could be formally opened on July 14 during a session of the EU Council in Brussels.
This move would mark a pivotal milestone in Ukraine’s path toward European integration, reaffirming the EU’s backing for the country’s and Moldova’s aspirations to join the bloc.
Why the Sixth Cluster Matters
Opening the sixth cluster could unlock fresh avenues for cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union. It also underscores the EU’s commitment to supporting nations pursuing European integration, especially amid the ongoing challenges facing the region.
Hungary’s role is also critical: by giving its consent, it may significantly shape future EU decisions on enlargement and the integration of Ukraine and Moldova.
