Moscow Readies a Disinformation Campaign

According to UATV: Andriy Kovalenko, a senior official from Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, has warned that Russia is preparing an information operation aimed at straining ties between Ukraine and Poland. According to his statement, agents of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) intend to release fabricated documents on July 5 concerning the Volyn tragedy—a series of deadly ethnic clashes during World War II.

Kovalenko explained that the operation’s goal is to destabilize Ukrainian-Polish relations. He specifically noted:

'On July 5, FSB officers plan to publish forged materials about World War II events, particularly the Volyn tragedy, in an attempt to undermine the relationship between Ukraine and Poland.' Andriy Kovalenko

In addition, Russian state-controlled media have been instructed to amplify this narrative as widely as possible—a move that underscores Moscow’s ongoing efforts to weaponize disinformation against its neighbors. The situation has raised alarms among Ukrainian experts and analysts, who are urging vigilance against potential information manipulation.

Historical Sensitivity and Potential Fallout

Given the deep historical wounds and the highly sensitive nature of the Volyn tragedy, this disinformation campaign could have serious repercussions for bilateral relations between Ukraine and Poland. Specialists stress the need for a swift response to false claims in order to prevent the spread of misleading information that might reignite historical disputes and escalate regional tensions.

With Ukraine still fighting a full-scale war and facing relentless Russian propaganda, safeguarding national interests has become more critical than ever.
