The Upcoming Challenge for Matt Fitzpatrick at the Ryder Cup

According to The Sun: Matt Fitzpatrick, a 31-year-old golfer, believes he 'deserves' the chance to improve his performances at the Ryder Cup, even though his parents cannot be present at the tournament.

Fitzpatrick is in the European team for the fourth time at Bethpage Black, but has only achieved one victory out of eight previous matches.

His poor performances include a 0-3 showing at Whistling Straits in 2021 in front of a packed stadium in the USA.

But the atmosphere in New York will be very different.

Fitzpatrick's wife Catherine will be there to support her husband, despite possible taunts from the crowd.

However, his parents, Russell and Sue, did not come to Bethpage.

Fitzpatrick is confident that insults will not affect him and noted:

"I come from Sheffield, so that's probably a good start."

He added:

"You have to take everything with a sense of humor. I joked well with the guys who told me: 'Oh, you will probably be here on Friday.' I replied: 'Yeah, you're probably right!'

Fitzpatrick explained that his parents had negative experiences at Whistling Straits, but now plan to attend the Dunhill Links tournament next week:

"They want to have a good week, and I understand that it's important for them."

Debut at the Ryder Cup and Hopes for Improvement

Fitzpatrick made his Ryder Cup debut at just 22 years old and went 0-2 at Hazeltine in 2016, failing to win at Whistling Straits as well.

He won the US Open 2022 and, together with Rory McIlroy, secured the first victory in Rome, but failed to win another match.

Regarding his chances, Fitzpatrick said:

"I've heard that my 1-7 record doesn't reflect everything, I wasn't ready at that time."

He is confident that he deserves a spot on the team, as he showed good performances in the championships over the summer:

"I didn't think I would guarantee a spot, but I thought I deserve to be in the discussion."

Fitzpatrick will play on Friday in the second pair alongside Ludwig Åberg against the world's number one, Scottie Scheffler, and Russell Henley.

This gives Matt Fitzpatrick the opportunity to demonstrate his skills at the Ryder Cup, despite the challenging circumstances. Let's hope that the support of his wife helps him navigate the challenges and strengthen his position in the European team. This will be an important moment not only for him but also for the whole team striving for success at this prestigious tournament.
