Trump Administration to Oppose Israel's Ban from World Cup 2026: What We Know.
Trump Against Israel's Ban at the World Championship
According to The Sun: The Trump administration intends to combat any attempts to prohibit Israel's participation in the World Cup 2026.
The Israeli national team is currently participating in qualifying matches and may take part in the tournament that will take place next year in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
AlamyHowever, UN consultants advise prohibiting Israel's participation.
UEFA is considering its next steps and is close to possibly imposing a ban.
Some members support this decision, but Donald Trump's administration may oppose any potential sanctions.
A representative of the U.S. State Department told Sky News:
“We will absolutely work to stop any attempts to ban the Israeli national football team from participating in the World Cup.”
FIFA has not yet made a decision on this matter and has not responded to inquiries from UN special rapporteurs.
An investigation initiated by FIFA last year is ongoing regarding accusations of discrimination raised by the Palestinian Football Association against the Israeli federation.
UN consultants are calling for a ban on Israel in the international football arena.
Alexandra Ksanthaki, UN special rapporteur on cultural rights, stated:
“Sport cannot remain a business as usual, and something must change, Israel must be excluded.”
FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who was in New York this week, delivered a speech after receiving the Atlantic Council Global Citizen Award.
In his speech, he mentioned words about war and the unity of people in a “divided, aggressive world.”
He added:
“It hurts me when I see children suffering. I cry when I see mothers crying, be it in Gaza… anywhere in the world.”id='6376798816112' datа-video-id='6376798816112' data-account='5067014667001' datа-player='default' datа-usage='cms:WordPress:6.5.6:2.8.6:javascript' datа-embed='default' class='video-js' datа-application-id='' controls style='width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute; top: 0; bottom: 0; right: 0; left: 0;'>
The question of Israel's participation in the World Cup raises important political and social aspects that relate not only to sports but also to international relations. The situation will remain under control as the UN, UEFA, and other organizations continue to analyze the impact of potential decisions on the global football landscape and the political circumstances in the region.
The situation in Ukraine may also affect international politics, as different countries may use sporting events to demonstrate support or criticism in the context of geopolitical conflicts. We will monitor developments as this issue becomes increasingly relevant in the modern world.
