Trump announces plan to end war in Ukraine: what he proposes

According to The Sun: Donald Trump presented his plan for a quick end to the war in Ukraine, calling on NATO to take joint action against Vladimir Putin.

The US President promised to implement 'serious sanctions against Russia', but noted that this would only happen if all NATO countries agreed to stop purchasing oil from the Russian regime.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated:

“I am ready to impose serious sanctions against Russia when all NATO countries agree to do the same and when all NATO countries STOP PURCHASING OIL FROM RUSSIA.”

He also emphasized that NATO's commitment to ending Putin's war is currently 'far from 100%'. Trump criticized alliance countries for purchasing Russian oil, calling it 'shocking'. He underscored his determination to end the war, adding:

“I am ready to 'step up' when you are ready. Just say when?”

Additionally, he called on NATO to impose sanctions against China, stressing that Xi Jinping funds Putin's military actions. Trump noted:

“I believe that this, plus NATO grouping together and imposing tariffs of 50% to 100% on China, will greatly help in concluding this deadly but absurd war.”

He stated:

“China has strong control and even control over Russia, and these powerful tariffs will break this control.”

Trump called the war 'Biden and Zelensky's war' and added:

“It would never have started if I were President!”

Regarding his demands, Trump promised:

“If NATO does what I say, the war will end quickly, and all these lives will be saved!”

He also warned:

“Otherwise, you are just wasting my time, as well as the time, energy, and money of the United States.”

This came after Polish and allied troops shot down Russian drones over NATO airspace. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk characterized the situation as:

“The closest moment to open conflict since World War II.”

While Ukraine is not an ally, NATO countries such as the United Kingdom remain key partners of Kyiv since the beginning of the war in 2022.

Warsaw claims that the Russian drone attack on Poland was intentional AFP

The Kremlin responded to the drone incident, calling it 'political clickbait'.

As a NATO member, Poland has defense under Article 5 of the treaty, meaning an attack on one is considered an attack on all. If a NATO member attacked by Russia decides to activate this clause, the entire alliance – which includes the USA, the UK, France, and Germany – would be compelled to enter the conflict.

After this week's attack, Warsaw decided to activate Article 4, which calls member states to discuss active threats without declaring war.

Trump's latest statement aims to urge NATO allies to more actively support sanctions against Russia to compel Putin to engage in serious negotiations. The US President previously indicated that his patience with the Russian leader 'is wearing thin' after recent events.

Meanwhile, Russian forces continue to regularly carry out brutal strikes on cities in Ukraine.

The situation in the region remains tense, and NATO's role in supporting Ukraine could be crucial in the upcoming developments. The allies' response and Russia's reaction may determine the next steps in this complex and dangerous chess game.
