Interceptor drones will not protect Ukrainian cities: expert on their real effectiveness

According to ТСН: An expert analyzed the effectiveness of interceptor drones for the protection of Ukrainian cities, pointing out their inability to provide complete coverage for both civilian and energy facilities.

Valeriy Borovyk, founder of the defense product manufacturing company First Contact, emphasized on the air of 'KYIV24':

'It cannot be said that they are completely ineffective. They work, especially in the last miles, so to speak, of the flight to the target, then they can knock down 'Shahed' drones. Although they are already flying at a high speed during the attack.'

Traditional 'Shahed' drones develop speeds of over 200 km/h, while jet-powered ones can exceed 300-500 km/h.

'No matter what is said about interceptor drones, they will not provide the necessary coverage for civilians, military personnel, and energy facilities,'

– noted Borovyk. He also emphasized that all are interested in finding effective and economical ways of protection.

Moreover, according to him, the enemy's strike capabilities are increasing, while the air defense system cannot keep up with these changes.

Previously, President Zelensky explained why Ukraine lacks interceptor drones:

'There are not enough interceptors, and the issue is no longer about money, or not only about that. Money is always limited, but now with interceptors, it is not just a matter of money. There are technical issues, manufacturers cannot keep up with the quantity we currently need,'

– he emphasized.

The situation regarding the provision of interceptor drones remains a pressing topic for discussion in Ukraine. Despite the fact that these technologies show some effectiveness, their insufficient quantity and the technical limitations of administrative production pose a threat to the possibility of full protection against airborne threats. The issue is not only about finances but also about the production capacities' ability to meet the needs of the Ukrainian army in a challenging time.
