Shaping Ukraine’s Future After the War

According to Novyny.live: During a meeting in Rivne with the city’s acting mayor, Viktor Shakyzian, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov laid out his vision for Ukraine’s post-war trajectory. The discussion zeroed in on three core priorities: economic growth, veteran support, and bringing displaced Ukrainians back home. This gathering of municipal leaders underscored the growing importance of inter-city cooperation in planning for the country’s recovery.

Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion, collaboration between Ukrainian communities has intensified. Terekhov stressed that society now demands tangible actions, not empty promises:

“Today, society needs action and real deeds, not promises.” - Ihor Terekhov

He went on to say that the central question to answer is: 'what will the country look like after the war?' In his view, Ukraine must not simply rebuild—it must emerge stronger, driven by a new wave of industrialization, modern production facilities, tech exports, and a robust economy.

Local Communities as Pillars of Reconstruction

The Kharkiv mayor also highlighted that local communities are not just shoring up the state’s resilience—they are actively crafting practical solutions for its future:

“Today, communities are not only ensuring the state’s stability but also shaping practical solutions for its future.” - Ihor Terekhov

According to Terekhov, if the state, communities, businesses, and society work in unison, 'we have every chance to achieve these goals.'

In a related development, at least 500 million hryvnias have been allocated for preparations for the next heating season. This funding is intended to support communities and ensure adequate living conditions during the cold months. The dialogue between Terekhov and Shakyzian thus marked a significant step toward strengthening inter-municipal cooperation and jointly tackling pressing issues tied to Ukraine’s post-war development.

This meeting highlights the urgent need for active collaboration among Ukrainian cities during the post-war recovery period. The financial commitment to heating season preparations also shows that local communities are determined to maintain comfortable conditions for residents despite the challenges facing the nation. Joint efforts by city representatives may lay the groundwork for a new economic strategy for Ukraine in the post-war era.
