Two daytime drone attacks on Kyiv: experts explain Russia's new tactics.
Attacks on Kyiv on January 14, 2023
According to TSN.ua: On January 14, 2023, Russia launched two drone attacks on Kyiv during daylight. These attacks forced people to seek shelter, indicating a new tactic that, according to experts, has an intelligence-gathering character and may signal possible missile strikes. Expert Ihor Romanenko states that Russia is trying to destabilize Ukraine's rear, indicating an escalation of the conflict.
The purpose of the attacks and their consequences
According to Romanenko, the Kremlin's goal is to exert moral pressure on Ukraine's population and bring Kyiv into a state of complete blackout. He also noted that Russia is increasing the use of ballistic missiles due to the limited number of air defense resources in Ukraine. Experts report that the Russians have reduced the number of 'Shahed' drones used from 500-600 to 200-300, with missile use limited to 50 units. This indicates an attempt by Russian military forces to adapt their tactics in the face of growing pressure from Ukrainian air defense forces.
The attacks on Kyiv, as Romanenko notes, are also aimed at exhausting air defense fighters.
“The enemy is trying to exhaust the personnel who operate anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems,” emphasizes expert Ihor Romanenko. He calls for the formation of local defense groups that can effectively act in cities and settlements near the frontline. Romanenko also emphasizes the need for new missiles to repel Russian air attacks.
Moreover, General Syrski recently met with an American general in Europe, which may indicate international support for Ukraine in this challenging situation. Romanenko points out that the enemy is developing new routes for conducting attacks to go undetected by air defense systems.
“Only when Putin sees that the situation is destabilized one hundred percent will he come forward with an initiative to take part in the negotiation process,” adds the expert.
The situation in Ukraine reflects the increasing tension in the conflict, where Russia is attempting to employ new tactics to achieve its goals. The intensification of attacks on Kyiv may indicate attempts by the Kremlin to destabilize the situation in Ukraine, particularly through challenges for defense forces. At the same time, active international support, notably in the form of military leaders' meetings, underscores the importance of coordinating efforts to ensure Ukraine's national security.
