The incident occurred as the boat was leaving the marina in Fuengirola. Video recordings show black smoke rising from the motorboat during its attempt to set off.
Firefighters extinguished the flames from the nearest point on land. Local residents on jet skis and other boats rushed to assist the victims and participated in fighting the fire.
This event received extensive coverage; however, it is still unknown whether there were British citizens among the injured.
The alarm signal was received at 12:20 on Saturday when several witnesses noticed black smoke in the air. The fire was visible from nearby beaches. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
One of the fishermen told local media:
“It was an open boat made of polyester, which is a very bad combination with fuel, as it burns very quickly.”
The boat sank due to the fire onboard.

A representative of the Fuengirola City Council reported:
“The Rescue Service, Fire Department, and Local Police, as well as Civil Guard, responded today to the fire on the boat, which was in the marina, near the harbor exit.”He added:
“For reasons yet to be determined, an explosion occurred, and the boat caught fire.”
“Within minutes, rescuers from the Rescue Service reached the crew and brought them to safety,” continued the representative. At the time of the explosion, there were eight people aboard the boat, and all of them were injured, three of whom were serious.

“Representatives of the Andalusian Port Agency are closely monitoring the situation to assess the need for preventive measures against spills,” added the representative.
This incident occurred exactly one year after four Britons were rescued from an explosion on a luxury yacht off the coast of Menorca. Footage from that incident shows flames engulfing a 40-foot boat after a fire broke out in the engine room. Events unfolded in such a way that the coast guard attempted to extinguish the flames using powerful water pressure, while a huge plume of black smoke rose into the air near the island's capital, Mahon.
Initially, rescuers planned to tow the boat to port for more effective fire fighting but eventually decided to send it further out to sea to avoid the risk of explosion before it sank.
Four Britons aboard were rescued and brought to shore by a boat belonging to the yacht club located in the port of Mahon.
