Kharkiv's Energy Strategy

According to Novyny.live: Economist Oleksiy Kushch has called for Ukraine to adopt Kharkiv's model for ensuring energy security across the entire country. He praised the effective leadership of Mayor Ihor Terekhov during energy crises, noting that Kharkiv demonstrates clear planning and preparedness for energy challenges, which other cities should emulate.

Ihor Terekhov, the Mayor of Kharkiv and head of the Association of Frontline Cities and Communities, has received high praise from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his city's preparations for energy crises. Former Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal also noted that Kharkiv's level of readiness significantly surpasses that of Kyiv. The city has established a dedicated headquarters to coordinate energy restoration work, showcasing a systematic approach to solving energy problems. This is particularly critical for a major city that has endured relentless Russian attacks on its infrastructure.

Examples of Successful Projects

A key example of Kharkiv's successful energy projects is the opening of a solar power station at one of the city's hospitals, featuring nearly a hundred solar panels with a capacity exceeding 500 watts each. This highlights an innovative approach to energy supply under wartime conditions. Kushch observed that Kharkiv has clearly defined action algorithms, responsibility zones, timelines for task completion, trained personnel, and efficient use of local budget funds.

Kushch emphasized that Kharkiv's experience must be scaled to other Ukrainian metropolises. This could become a vital step in strengthening Ukraine's energy independence. Furthermore, over 300 members of the Association of Frontline Cities and Communities of Ukraine have signed a joint statement calling for a state policy to support small and medium-sized businesses in frontline territories, which could also enhance resilience during energy crises.

Kharkiv's experience in energy supply can serve as a model for other Ukrainian cities, especially under the constant challenges posed by war and the energy crisis. The effectiveness of the city authorities and the implementation of innovative projects, such as solar power stations, could stimulate the development of energy independence in other regions.

The joint statement from the Association of Frontline Cities underscores the importance of supporting businesses in these areas, which in turn can ensure stability and adaptation to new conditions. This creates the preconditions for a comprehensive national approach to solving energy problems.
