Former City Council Member Detained for Helping Russian Forces Target Ukrainian Military.
Arrest of Ex-Shostka Municipal Deputy
According to Espreso.tv: A former deputy of the Shostka City Council has been taken into custody for collaborating with Russian intelligence services. The suspect, who belonged to the now-banned Party of Regions, provided coordinates and movement routes of Ukrainian defense units, using his phone’s camera to gather and transmit sensitive information.
Authorities report that the traitor received direct orders from a handler in Russia—an officer of the FSB Directorate for the Bryansk Region. Law enforcement apprehended him at his home, where they seized a smartphone containing evidence of his espionage activities on behalf of the enemy.
Court Verdict and Implications
A court found the individual guilty under Article 111, Part 2 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code. His actions posed a serious threat to national security, especially amid the ongoing military conflict.
This case highlights the critical effort to neutralize internal threats during Russia’s aggression. It underscores how information warfare and betrayal can directly endanger the country’s defense forces. Ukrainian authorities remain vigilant in identifying and prosecuting those who collaborate with the enemy—a vital step in safeguarding stability and protecting national interests.
