What a Fresh Mobilization in Russia Could Mean

According to UATV: Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, has warned that Russia may launch another wave of conscription in autumn 2023. According to him, more than 500,000 individuals could be called up during this period. Kovalenko argues that such a move signals Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intention to sustain the war effort.

Expert Assessment

Retired Ukrainian Army General Mykola Malomuzh, who led Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service from 2005 to 2010, noted that the 500,000-strong mobilization reserve prepared for the fall will not give the Kremlin a strategic edge. He emphasized that despite the large numbers, the outcomes are unlikely to shift in Russia’s favor. This suggests that the situation remains tense, and expert forecasts raise serious concerns about how events may unfold.

Mobilization in Russia may indicate the Kremlin’s attempts to compensate for losses and maintain a military presence on the front lines.

At the same time, expert evaluations of the effectiveness of such measures highlight the complexity of the battlefield, where troop numbers do not always guarantee success. These developments could influence the conflict’s future dynamics and the strategies adopted by both sides in the months ahead.
